Deputies arrest three different drivers on felony DUI charges over the weekend

Law enforcement agencies all over Ada County had a busy Halloween weekend with drunken driving arrests. From Friday afternoon to midnight Sunday, 16 people were charged with DUI and booked into the Ada County Jail.

Ada County Sheriff’s deputies made seven of those arrests — with three people being charged with felony DUI. All three people registered blood alcohol content (BAC) levels over .220 — which is close to three times the legal BAC limit of .08.

Two of those arrested – 42-year-old Jason Cummings of Nampa and 29-year-old Kimberly M. Liljenquist of Boise — are charged with felonies because it is their third DUI arrest in the last 10 years.

Nikolai Brechlin of Boise is charged with the felony because it is his second arrest for excessive DUI — meaning someone who registers over .20 on the BAC test — since 2011. Deputies arrested the 26-year-old Brechlin after dispatchers got a call from the public about a possibly intoxicated driver near S. Maple Grove and Lake Hazel roads just after 4 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies arrested Cummings just after midnight Saturday during their investigation of a hit-and-run crash near the Black Cat/Franklin roads intersection. Cummings drove his car into a power pole and then into a field nearby.

Deputies arrested Liljenquist just after 1 a.m. Saturday at a gas station in the 3000 block of Five Mile Road after the deputy watched her car swerve across lanes on both sides of the road before pulling over.

All three drivers failed field sobriety tests before they took the breath tests, where they were all over .22 BAC. All three were then booked into jail. All three have court hearings scheduled for later this month.

The crime of felony DUI is punishable by up to ten years in prison, with a mandatory minimum driver’s license suspension of at least one year.
