76-year-old man charged with lewd conduct

Detectives are working to figure out if a 76-year-old Avimor man who had illegal sexual contact with two pre-teenage boys could have any other victims.

Richard A. Cook is charged with two felony counts of lewd conduct and is being held in the Ada County Jail without bond as he awaits a court hearing.

Detectives began their investigation Sunday after being contacted by a third party, who told them they were concerned about Cook’s interaction with one of the children the day before.

Detectives developed evidence Cook had illegal sexual contact with a child on Saturday and with a different child within the last year at an Avimor-area home.

Both victims in the case are known to Cook.

Detectives arrested Cook Wednesday after interviewing him at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

The crime of lewd conduct is punishable by up to life in prison.

Detectives are concerned Cook might have other victims because he has worked at a nursery in his church in the past and had access to children. Anyone with information should call detective Ashley Hageman-Turner at (208) 577-3790 or send an email to [email protected]
