36-year-old Boise man charged with felony injury to child

Ada County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Robert Lee Dougal at his Boise home Thursday on a felony charge of injury to child after investigators found extensive bruising on the head, face, neck and back of his 1-year-old step-son last month.

Deputies declared the baby to be in imminent danger on Sept. 13 – the day after a different family member took the boy to the hospital to have the bruises checked out.

The baby was admitted to the hospital Sept. 12 and placed in the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare the next day. He has been with a foster family since then.

Detectives began investigating the case Sept. 13 after being contacted by a third party about the injuries to the baby.

Detectives later developed evidence of a pattern of abuse done to the boy by Dougal over the last several months.

Ada County prosecutors issued the arrest warrant Wednesday.

Dougal is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Ada County Jail. He is set to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon.

The crime of felony injury to child is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
