30-year-old man arrested in connection with hit-and-run crash

A 30-year-old south Boise man is being held in the Ada County jail in connection with a hit-and-run crash Sunday night that badly injured two pedestrians.

Deputies arrested Ryan K. Craftsman Tuesday on a felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury.

Deputies had been looking for a pickup truck seen leaving the scene of the crash just before 8 p.m. Sunday on West Harness Drive.

A 28-year-old woman and 31-year-old man were walking on the north berm of West Harness Drive when they were hit from behind by a pickup. The pickup also hit a mailbox before the driver took off.

A neighbor heard a loud bang and came out to see a pickup driving away and two people lying on the side of the road. That person immediately called 911. Deputies and paramedics arrived moments later. The man and woman were both taken to a local hospital for treatment of what appeared to be life-threatening injuries.

The man was released from the hospital early Tuesday. The woman is still in the hospital and listed in critical condition.

Deputies spent much of Sunday night and Monday canvassing the area looking for a truck that had damage to the front end when they found Craftsman’s pickup parked in a neighborhood about two miles from the crash site.

Deputies later determined Craftsman was driving his 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck on West Harness Drive just before 8 p.m. Sunday and developed other evidence — including damage to the pickup truck and with interviews — linking him to the crash.

Deputies arrested Craftsman at his home Tuesday afternoon.

Craftsman is set to make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon. Additional charges are possible.
