24-year-old Baker City man pleads guilty for 2013 holdup of south Ada convenience store

Jonathon E. Whitlow will find out his fate early next year for robbing a convenience store clerk with a gun in 2013.

The 24-year-old Whitlow pleaded guilty to felony grand theft and aggravated assault charges in connection with the case Friday as part of a plea agreement with Ada County prosecutors.

A sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 8 in front of 4th District Judge Melissa Moody.

Whitlow was originally charged with felony counts of robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Prosecutors dropped those charges as part of the plea agreement.

Deputies began their investigation on Dec. 3, 2013. Around 1 a.m. that day a man wearing a grey cloth over the bottom of his face walked into the Maverik store at 3080 S. Five Mile Road, pulled out a handgun, and demanded money from a clerk.

The man walked out a short time later with an undisclosed amount of cash. The clerk was not injured.

Deputies responding to the call searched the area but were not able to find the robber.

A description of the man went out to local media, along with a security video of the hold-up.

Information from the public and other evidence gathered by detectives during a long-term investigation led them identify Whitlow as the robber. Ada County prosecutors issued a warrant for Whitlow’s arrest in September.

Police arrested Whitlow in Baker City in early October on an Ada County warrant.

Whitlow is being held in the Ada County Jail on a $250,000 bond as he awaits sentencing.
