Meridian woman arrested for felony DUI and eluding arrest

Misty Dawn Simonson is being held in the Ada County Jail on felony counts of DUI and eluding arrest after she smashed her Mitsubishi SUV into a parked pickup truck on Amity Road late Thursday night — just moments after a deputy tried to pull her over.

The DUI arrest is Simonson’s third since 2006, making it a felony.

The incident began just before 11 p.m. when an ACSO deputy tried to pull the Mitsubishi SUV over near the Carrie Way/Amity Road intersection while investigating a report of a drunk driver. Instead of pulling over, Simonson sped the SUV up and kept driving east on Amity.

Simonson got about a ½ mile down the road, reaching speeds as high as 70 mph, before she crashed the SUV into a parked pickup truck.

Deputies detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the 30-year-old Simonson, who admitted to drinking before the crash. She also had glassy and bloodshot eyes. A blood sample was taken for later evidence testing.

Simonson was treated at a local hospital before being booked into the jail Friday morning.

The crime of felony DUI is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a one-year minimum revocation of all driving privileges once that person gets out of jail or prison, according to Idaho Code.
