Victim Witness Administrator Susan Ledford retires after 26 years of dedicated service

After 26 years of dedicated service at the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office, our Victim Witness Administrator Susan Ledford is retiring.

Susan has been passionately serving crime victims for more than 30 years. When she was feeling unfulfilled in her prior career, she attended a Women’s Conference in Orange County California, where John Walsh spoke about the work he was doing after his son was kidnapped and murdered. That was the turning point for Susan, and when she found an opening in 1987 to volunteer in Orange County’s Victim Witness Unit, she took it.

She then volunteered in 1992 with the Boise Police Department’s Victim Witness Unit. She has been working as a victim witness coordinator at the prosecutor’s office since 1995, and spent the last year as the Victim Witness Administrator. Susan has assisted crime victims in all types of cases, including numerous homicide cases in Ada County, and beyond the courtroom at a national level, assisting victims of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.

“Being able to assist people during some of the most difficult times of their lives has been a humbling and rewarding experience,” said Susan. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve my community in that way.”

Susan has spent a career ensuring victims are afforded their constitutional and statutory rights, and has helped hundreds and hundreds of people throughout her career. Witnessing the resilience of people is something that will always stick with her.

“It’s been the best career I could’ve ever in my wildest dreams hoped for,” Susan said. “To work some place as fabulous as this, as supportive as this, and to be a part of peoples’ healing journey after something really bad has happened is incredible.”

“Susan, on behalf of a grateful staff at the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office and a grateful community, we thank you for your years of dedicated service,” said Ada County Prosecutor, Jan Bennetts. “You have truly made a difference in the lives of so many people, you leave a lasting legacy and you will be dearly missed. Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement and we all wish you the very best!”
