In addition to our day to day processing of applications, permits, inspections, plats, etc, Development Services is involved in a variety of large projects across the county. Here are some of the projects we have going on this year:
Zoning Ordinance Amendment
Development Services is currently in the process of rewriting our zoning code. Our current zoning code was written in the year 2000, and while minor improvements have been made over the years, it was time to update and modernize our ordinance.
We are also engaged in a tandem effort to look specifically at our ordinance as it pertains to wineries, event centers, and agritainment. This is a separate but “sister” endeavor to the larger Zoning Ordinance Amendment.
Capital Investment Plan
The Capital Investment Program (CIP) is an ongoing, collaborative process that receives and reviews public facility service needs from various county departments and offices for the next fiscal year. The County has established a Transformation Board, which serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners as they make final decisions on the CIP during the annual budget process.
Master Facilities Plan
In 2017, our Planning Division developed a Master Facilities Plan as envisioned in the Ada County 2025 Comprehensive Plan. Since then, the administrative team has been involved in various aspects of its implementation as directed by the Board of Ada County Commissioners and the Development Services Director. We also work with COMPASS on long-range growth planning and projections.
Historic Preservation
The Ada County Historic Preservation Council, which serves in an advisory role to the Board of County Commissioners with support from Development Services staff, has been awarded a CLG (Certified Local Government) Grant to conduct a reconnaissance survey to identify potential farmhouses and barns in the Kuna area that could be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
