The Office employs a total 12 full time Medicolegal Death Investigators who are certified by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI). This includes one (1) Investigative supervisor, one (1) Senior Deputy, and nine (9) Investigators. Investigative staff is scheduled to cover 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to receive death reports and to respond to death scenes. This typically results in two death investigators working nearly all shifts at any given time. The investigative staff prepares reports and gathers information for the pathology and forensic staffs based on their scene investigations. Investigative staff transports decedents to the coroner’s office for inspection by the pathology staff as needed to meet state statutes.
