Recycle

Recycling Trash Can
Standard residential service for customers residing in unincorporated Ada County includes “every other week pickup” of one 95-gallon recycling cart for each household on your regular service day.

Set Out Instructions

  • Pickup occurs every other week on your assigned trash collection day
  • Place carts in the street against the curb y 7:00 am with lids closed
  • Place carts at least 3 feet away from other carts or objects
  • Place carts in area free of overhead trees, etc. (14 feet clearance)
  • Make sure cart handle faces your house
  • Do not block sidewalks
  • All approved recycling items can be mixed in the cart
  • To preserve the value of the recyclables, only place approved items in the recycling cart that are empty, clean and dry. If non-recyclable material is placed in the bin, it may cause the entire container’s contents to be sent to the landfill.
  • Place used motor oil in clear jugs with a label and in full view of drivers on your recycle day (only)

  • Paper & Cardboard
    • Cardboard boxes (flattened or cut down to fit in cart)
    • Computer and fax paper
    • Construction paper
    • Envelopes (cellophane window ok)
    • Frozen food and cereal boxes (no liners)
    • Junk mail
    • Magazine and catalogs
    • Newspapers
    • Office waste paper (any color)
    • Paper bags
    • Phone books
  • Plastic Bottles & Jugs
    • Must be marked with the #1 or #2 recycling symbol. These include rigid plastic bottles and jugs (i.e. milk jugs, detergent jugs, rigid plastic soda and fruit juice jugs)
    • Items marked with a #4-#7 – may be recycled in the Orange Dow Hefty Energy Bags securely tied and placed in the recycle cart.
  • Tin & Aluminum 
    • Aerosol cans (must be empty; labels ok)
    • Aluminum cans
    • Steel cans
    • Tin cans
    • Clean foil
    • Wire Hangers
Please do not place any of the following items in your recycling cart:

  • #3 – NO LIGHTWEIGHT PLASTICS – lightweight water bottles cannot currently be recycled in either the single-stream cart or Orange Bag. Please refer to the recycling stickers on the recycle cart lid for info on accepted plastics.
  • Chip and candy wrappers
  • Food contaminated paper (pizza boxes, plates, coffee cups)
  • Food waste
  • Glass
  • Hazardous waste containers
  • Milk and juice paper cartons
  • Plastic bags
  • Soft or flimsy plastics
  • Styrofoam/packaging
  • Tissues, napkins, paper towels
  • Yard waste
  • Wax coated cardboard
  • Shredded Paper

 

 

Hefty EnergyBag Program

Hard to recycle plastics? No problem. These take those plastics, films, and numbers 4-7 and keep them from the landfill. Check out this Hefty Energy Bag Program Flyer or visit Hefty Energy Bag Program’s Website to learn more information.

If interested in participating, bags are available for purchase at these participating retailers: Albertsons, Target, Fred Meyer and the Boise Co-Op.

Fall Leaf Recycling

Fall leaf recycling in unincorporated Ada County runs for the first four full weeks in November. Please set out your leaves in a customer supplied Kraft paper bags. Leaves will be collected on your normal collection day.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Christmas tree recycling is offered for the first two full weeks following Christmas.

  • Remove all lights and decorations from the tree
  • Cut the tree and branches into 4-ft pieces and place curbside on your regular service day
  • Timing on routes may be adjusted to accommodate, so make sure waste is set curbside by 7:00 am to avoid missed service
