Public Administration

Overview

Probate, intestate photo

In Idaho, county treasurers serve as ex-officio public administrators in accordance with Idaho Code Title 14, chapter 1

The Public Administrator is tasked with taking charge of the estates of residents who pass away intestate by not having a will and/or not having heirs or creditors who will step forward to probate the estate. The Public Administrator administers the estate by accounting for all assets, resolving all claims, and distributing excess funds.

Ada County, on average, handles between 20 and 30 public administration cases per year. Please visit our FAQ page for more information about Public Administration.
